Sometimes it’s that stupid, reckless decision to grab an impossible dream that changes the world, or at least your life.

The one thing I can’t understand is why if people have a dream they don’t follow it, and the advice I often end up giving my friends is “Just go for it and see what happens, you’ve got nothing to lose”. Jump out into the unknown waters and make them known, if we had not ventured off our shores we would know nothing of the world around us.

This can apply to virtually any situation, we can find hundreds of real life stories where people say “I just went for it to see what happened” and it has come out fantastically well. I have not yet heard one person say they regretted just going for it, because even if you don’t get the result you expected, you learn something and find a higher level for your life because of it, you know new things and can try a new, more exciting path. Looking through my blog posts, some of them deal with heartbreak, but I don’t regret just throwing away my restraints and trying to start something with him, I learnt things and now I’m happier because I am wiser. Today I asked a friend how it was going with a boy she liked and she replied “Badly”, upon further questioning she said “It’s never going to happen” but had no solid reason to base this on, she does have a chance but because she is holding back and ‘doesn’t know what to do’ she has decided to keep it secret inside her. After a painful break up another one of my friends was at the point in a break up when she didn’t care anymore, she gave her number to a boy in the year above, nothing would happen, it was a laugh, it was reckless and she just went for it, they’re now very good friends and things are looking positive for a future relationship between them.

Dive into the unknown

Writers, musicians, workers, activists, lovers have all just thrown the rules away and gone for something, and I can quite confidently none of them have regretted it looking back on it. So throw away the rules – rules are made to be broken anyway-and go for it, that job, that dream or that person, whatever it may be, jump into the water and learn to swim, if you believe you can do it you can because you will find a way to make it happen, and even if you begin to drown in those waters, when you find your way out, you will have learnt what waters are safe, what waters aren’t, and you will see and live with a new clarity and wisdom that will last your whole life through.

Just go for it
